'The UK porn block'

First announced in 2015, it looks as though the government has dusted off its plans to make porn websites carry out checks requiring UK users to provide passport and credit card details for example to prove that they are over 18. Writing this in early 2022, it's a hot topic and legislation to watch. It varies but it's estimated that at least a third of the British population watch porn.

Even if the Online Safety Bill comes into law, restricting underage access to porn is technically tricky, not least of all who holds your data, and whether you're prepared to be 'verified' in the first place. It's also a privacy timebomb and a treasure trove for hackers or blackmailers, especially for LGBT+ users.
