A booty bump is when chems are dissolved in water and squirted up the arse using a syringe barrel (without a needle).

The chems are absorbed through the lining of the anal canal and rectum.

Risks

  • Booty bumps can make it harder to measure doses accurately, increasing risk of overdose.
  • Irritation, bleeding/ inflammation.
  • Greater risk of HIV/ HCV and STI transmission if syringes are shared.
  • Lasting damage to the arsehole and rectum.

Reducing risks

  • Wash and dry your hands
  • Use a new or sterile syringe for each person*
  • Dissolve chems in sterile or freshly boiled water**
  • Lubricate syringe and arsehole and insert gently
  • Dose carefully: start low go slow—wait to feel effects
*Mark or label the barrel to identify.  **Allow the water to cool first.
